February is often one of the more challenges months of the year. It is dark, cold and after the busyness of the holidays, the monotony of life can sometimes seem unbearable and any hardships we come across, even more challenging than usual.
As a church, we are trying to meet people in the midst of this difficult season, while also going through our own organizational challenges. It is perhaps fitting that we are getting ready to enter the season of Lent, where it is appropriate to meditate upon the very human emotions of loss, grief, sadness and emptiness all while holding fast to the promise of resurrection and new life.
Here are a few ministry updates:
After a 7 month season of discerning together, our friends at Hill City Church have formally concluded their season of worshipping with us and are embarking on a new adventure. We are excited for them and look forward to hearing a report at the beginning of March as to their current ministry plans.
In our last update we announced that Natalie Daratony would be joining our pastoral team as an intern. Due to some changes in our employment situation, Natalie was unable to commit to the internship. She is still very much a part of our community and continuing to serve through our Music Team and Kids’ Table ministries.
An interesting opportunity is before us in the potential opening of a morning slot for our Sunday worship service. Our hosts, Daniels Run Peace Church is currently considering the various options and we hope to hear back soon. Though there are different challenges associated with moving to a morning service time, we are excited at the prospect of viewing this potential time change as an opportunity to do a bit of a re-organization and re-focusing.
Some complacency mixed with life-change in the lives of some of our members has definitely resulted in the loss of momentum but we are ever hopeful. We have another round of Ministry Team meetings underway and there have been some recent conversations that were very encouraging and clarifying.
As ever, we are thankful for your prayers, your financial support and general good will toward this little experiment called Table Covenant Church. Please continue to pray for us especially as we enter a season of discernment and possibly re-organization.
