August Update

We're excited to report that things are coming along very well with Table Covenant Church!

1. Pastoral Staff Team

Just last week, Joe Riffe and his wife Sydney packed up all their possessions and made the drive from Boston to Fairfax. Sydney has a job lined up at a school in Falls Church and Joe will begin his role as co-pastor effectively immediately. We are excited for their addition to the team!

If that wasn't enough, David Tassell and his wife Brittaney also moved from their apartment into their in-laws' place as David transitions from working full-time to continuing his studies at Calvin Theological Seminary. As part of his studies, he will be functioning as a Pastoral Intern at Table.

In sum, we have a Pastoral Staff Team! This is a picture from our first staff meeting.

2. Home Group/Sunday Service Rhythm

Our Home Groups have enjoyed going through the Re/Frame curriculum through the summer. Members were encouraged to take turns facilitating the discussions and small groups. Much food was consumed, meaningful discussions were had and life-events were celebrated. Our Sunday Services suffered a bit from the reality of people being away for summer vacations and travel, but we definitely got a hold on our set up procedure and our systems are now quite solid. For preaching, we went through a series exploring the richness and significance of the Lord's Supper.

With the fall, we are fully embracing this bi-weekly rhythm and alternating between Home Groups and Sunday Service, anchoring both in Paul's Letter to the Ephesians. Home Groups will study a passage one Sunday, then the following Sunday that same passage will be preached in service. We believe this rhythm will re-inforce the idea that our church isn't just a service we attend but a life lived out in community, in and for the neighborhood. With the addition of Pastors Joe and David, we're hoping that our outreach and missional efforts will be better developed this semester.

3. Intentional Discipleship Group

Our experimental Summer Discipleship Group is also coming to an end this month. This has been a rich time of developing 10 people into disciples who make disciples. The plan is for these 10 "graduates" to identify and develop 2-3 "disciples" themselves. We will begin our next round with 10 new people in October.

4. Other Ministries

In addition to Home Groups, Sunday Service and the Discipleship Group, there have been other exciting pastoral developments including:

- a pre-marital counseling relationship
- a scheduled infant baptism and child dedication
- a miracle adoption

All in all it's been an exciting and encouraging summer. We are excited for the fall and in many ways, a bit of a "reboot" as we continue to go "further up and further in" with new ministry partners and a renewed sense of mission.

Thank you, as always for your prayers and support.

Blessings,

Mike
